Club Presentation Night Review   05/01/2015

On Saturday, January 3rd, Uibh Laoire GAA celebrated our annual club presentation night in The Briar Rose in Inchigeela and an enjoyable night was had by all.

There was a large attendance present consisting of members, players and locals alike. The priorities of the night to present the annual Clubperson, Footballer & Hurler of the Year awards, along with cheques to Inchigeela & Kilbarry National Schools from funds raised by the 5km fun-run during Inchigeela Festival.

The Clubperson of the Year award was duly awarded to Barry Murphy. Barry put in a monumental effort at running the underasge section of club between training and managing teams from Under 10 up as far as Under 14. With it becoming increasingly tough to find mentors for underage teams, Barry took it upon his shoulders to look after the underage within the club & has done a brilliant job. Barry is a firm favourite among the underage players & thoroughly deserving of this award for all his hard work.

The Footballer of the Year award went to Seán O'Leary. Seán had a fine year as a marauding half back for both the Junior A's and Under 21's, after coming off shoulder surgery early in the season. Seán's performances were rewarded with a place on the Muskerry Senior Football Championship team as well as a nomination for the 2014 Muskerry Junior Football Team Of The Year.

The Hurler of the Year award went to Gerard O'Riordan. Gerard was a model of consistency throughout the year with notably excellent performances in County Championship games against Gabriel Rangers and Lismire, in which he drove on the team to victories from wing-back. Gerard was also captain of the team which show his leadership qualities match up to his hurling skills.

There was no doubt among everyone present and everyone who voted that all three were deserving of their respective awards.

A presentation was also made to Tracey Cronin who won the solo-singing category in the County Scór Sinsear Finals.

A special word of thanks to all of whom helped and attended on the night, as well as The Briar Rose for hosting such a successful night.
