Naomh Olaf Camogie win at home of the All-Ireland Hurling Champs   06/04/2017

The minor camogie team headed to Cuala's Hyde Park to play the second match of the Minor B league at the weekend.  Having been well beaten last year by the Dalkey outfit they were unsure what to expect.  Winning the toss they chose to play uphill to make it easier on the girls if they did have to come from behind. The girls got off to a strong start and all the play was in the Cuala half.  The ever reliable Ciara Murphy scored the first two points but the team struggled with their finishing and missed a lot of scoring chances.  Cuala, on their first attack of the game, scored a goal but, unfazed, the Sandyford girls replied with another Ciara Murphy point.  Then a great individual effort from player of the match, midfielder Aoife Maher, who worked tirelessly all over the pitch to chase down opponents and win back ball. Cuala tagged on another point leaving it all square at half time Cuala 1-1 Naomh Olaf 0-4.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               As with the Lucan match two weeks ago the visitors deserved to be further ahead.  Again the girls were asked to go out and win their own individual battles and for the first 20 minutes of the half they did just that scoring 2-3.  Julie Grimes had two magnificent points and Ellen O'Brien landed one from a 45.  However it was the two goals that put the Naomh Olaf girls in control, a fantastic strike from Lianna O'Connell whose first touch, passing and fight were outstanding on the day.  The second goal was scored by Lucy Byrne with a lot of help from Georgia Rae Corcoran.   Although Cuala pegged on three points and fielded some great ball Katie O'Rourke in goal and a fullback line of Sarah and Emma Smyth and Ciara Donnelly dealt with anything that came their way.  All the girls drove on and put in great displays to ensure their second win of the league on a scoreline of 2-7 to 1-4.  Next up will be nearer neighbours Ballinteer St. John's.
