Good League Win for Senior Hurlers   30/03/2017

Good League Win for Senior Hurlers

In their second match in Division 2 the Naomh Olaf Senior hurlers welcomed Raheny to Páirc Uí Bhriain last Sunday.  Having been introduced to the higher tempo in their defeat to St. Oliver Plunkett's Eoghan Ruadh a fortnight earlier the team were really up for this one.  It was Raheny who got off to the better start however and they gave an exhibition of long range shooting to score the first four points.  The Naomh Olaf's lads dug deep and with the aid of an Eoin Murphy goal following up a well-saved Declan O'Dwyer rasper, the Sandyford lads dug in to be 2 points down at half time. Reduced to fourteen men after O'Dwyer was shown red and with the concession of a soft goal, it seemed a long hill to climb.  But in one of the best back to the wall performances seen from these men, a great win was quarried in the second half on a 2:16 to 2:12 scoreline, much to the delight of team, management and supporters.  Great stuff a bhuachaillí.

The Junior team who welcomed local rivals Kilmacud Crokes to Páirc Uí Bhriain were slow to get off the mork and after a poor first half found themselves well behind at half time.  A very good second half recovery produced an exciting half hour but in the end the home team had to endure a one point defeat that could have been so much better.
