Kerry Hurlers fall short against Wexford
2016-03-06 20:00:00

Wexford 2-25 Kerry 0-08
Kerryâs recent run of good form, which saw them defeat Laois and give Limerick a good fright to Limerick, came to an end at a very blustery Austin Stack Park this afternoon. It was always going to be tough for the homeside but once Wexford had advantage of the strong wind in the opening half, the odds looked stacked against the Kingdom.
Wexford were determined not to give Kerry a foothold and they had three points on the new electronic scoreboard before Shane Nolan pointed from a free in th e7th minute. Mikey Boyle added a second after Andrew Shoreâs second for Wexford but Kerry were ripped apart in the 13th minutes when Shore, Podge Doran and Conor McDonald for the latter to shoot past a helpless Martin Stackpoole to open up a 1-6 to 0-2 lead. Kerry did have a good chance soon after when John Egan was in the clear but Conor OâLeary save well with Egan shooting over from the rebound. Harry Kehoe kept the scoreboard ticking for Wexford from placed balls and at the interval the Slaneysiders led by 1-13 to 0-4.
Mindful of Kerryâs fightback against Limerick a fortnight ago in similar circumstances, there was to be no let up by Wexford as Andrew Shore and Shane Nolan swapped points early after the resumption. Mikey Boyle kicked a good chance inches wide in the 47th minute and a goal at that stage would have given Kerry some heart. Shore and Harry Kehoe kept the umpire busy as Kerry depended on the accuracy of Shane Nolan from placed balls â he had one particularly fine effort from 70 yards on the sideline in the 49th minute â and Shoreâs goal in 61st minutes when he fielded a high ball, put the icing on the cake for the Slaneysiders.
Kerryâs next outing is on Sunday next against Clare in Ennis.
