Glen dream Team Knocked Out
In 1942 the power house senior hurling team in Cork were Glen Rovers. In 1934 they won their first ever county Senior Hurling title and then went on to win on to win 8 titles in a row putting them in with a shout to be proclaimed as one of the great hurling club sides of all time. Their team comprised of Cork Legends , Christy Ring , Jack Lynch and 1941 all Ireland winning Cork captain Connie Buckley. To illustrate how good this team was at the time , it turned out that the GAA hurling team of the Century had two players form this team.
However after a run of 8 years undefeated in championship hurling, they ran into Ballincollig in the Semi Final with some legends of own own including Willie 'Long Puck' Murphy [Wikipedia] and Paddy 'Hitler' Healy, who are honoured in the club house with a plaque outside the front door exclaiming his achievements..
1941 Senior Hurling Team that contested that years County Final only to lose to Glen Rovers , but to go on the next year and defeat the the same opposition in the County Semi Final
