Presidents Message

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It is an immense honour and privilege to be President of Gorey RFC in this, our 50th Anniversary. We kick started our Golden Jubilee celebrations with a hugely successful Black Tie Gala Ball in May and I look forward to a busy year ahead in this great club.

To be competing in the Premier Division of the Leinster League is a great achievement for a club of this size. I want to acknowledge the tremendous work Head Coach Philip Horan has done in recent years and wish him, his coaching team and club captain Stephen Gardiner continued success in the year ahead.

A welcome addition to the club in recent times has been the introduction and growth of girls & womens rugby. This year we intend to add another under age girl’s team to our competitive pool. But the sport is still developing and I know that Womens Captain Ciara Tomkins would love to see a few more girls (young…. or young at heart!) out on the pitch. So ladies, give it a go. You won’t be disappointed!

The club’s success in recent years has been built on a thriving youth structure. To all those who give freely of their time with our underage teams, a heartfelt thanks. To any parents who can, Youth & Minis Co-ordinators Darren & Eoin would appreciate any help, however small.

Indeed, the club depends on so many volunteers who give selflessly in so many different capacities. I would call on any member who can to volunteer, as many hands make light work!

I especially want to thank all our sponsors for their continued support. A particular mention for the Pettitt and Stafford families, our long standing main sponsors, who have contributed so much to the local community.

Finally, it gives me great pleasure to welcome all visiting teams and their supporters to Gorey RFC. I hope that your trip to Clonattin Road will be an enjoyable one and I look forward to meeting you all in our clubhouse afterwards.

Yours in rugby.
