Galway advance to meet Cork in Rd 4   24/07/2013

Alan Mulholland's Tribesmen, lucky to survive tricky tests against Tipperary and Waterford, delivered a much improved and polished performance to stun Armagh at Pearse Stadium this evening. Johnny Duane opened the scoring with a Galway point after three minutes followed by two pointed frees from Michael Meehan to see the Tribesmen lead by 0-3 to no score after ten minutes; the visitors had the next two scores with points from Tony Kernan and Caolan Rafferty. Each side scored a point each before Danny Cummins palmed the ball to the net for the only goal of the game on twenty four minutes to give his side a 1-4 to 0-3 advantage, Michael Martin scored a brace before the break to see Galway go in at half time leading by 1-6 to 0-5.

Armagh started the second half with two early points but Martin hit back with a beauty for the winners only for Stefan Campbell to pull one back for Armagh and cut the lead to two points 1-7 to 0-8; but Galway then landed four points without reply from Meehan 0-2 and one each from Paul Conroy and Gary Sice to seal a round game against Cork in Croke Park next Saturday.
