Press Release 2018-03-16 14:17:00

Due to Health and Safety concerns and a reduction in capacity to approx. 8000 at Walsh Park because of the impending removal of the Western Boundary wall, Waterford GAA had no alternative but to seek for a deviation from the Munster Senior Hurling Championship Competition Regulations for a change of venue for the games against Tipperary and Cork.

In relation to the Tipperary game it was not possible to play the match in Pairc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday June 3rd due to the Cork City Marathon taking place in the city on that date and Tipperary were not in a position to play the game on the Bank Holiday Monday. The option to play the game in Thurles or Nowlan Park could not be considered under the Regulations as a change from a Home venue can only be to a Neutral venue within the Province.

The game against Tipperary will take place in Gaelic Grounds, Limerick on June 3rd.

The game against Cork will take place in Semple Stadium, Thurles on June 17th.

Waterford GAA regret any inconvenience this may cause our loyal supporters but unfortunately the County Board was left with no alternative taking into consideration all the circumstances.
