U 12's
A busy week for our girls with two matches both at home, first v Buttevant and the 2nd v St. Catherines.  Our girls and Buttevant were two evenly matched teams with both sides working extremely hard and our back line in particular absorbing a massive amount of pressure with great work from Vicky, Sophie and Chloe to hold the Buttevant forwards and some excellent saves from Taylor, a particularly vital one literally on the final whistle. Great individual efforts from Anna, Caoimhe, Emily, Emma Stott and Aoibhainn ably backed up by Zoe, Eva, Jessica, Emma O'Flynn and Megan.  Their persistence eventually paying off when Megan sneaked in behind the Buttevant cover and scored. The second game against St. Catherines proved to be a much easier outing for our girls.  Even so our back line again went one to one with their opposite markers making sure we kept our opponents scoreless and all over the field there has been a notable improvement since the season began.  Excellent scores from Caoimhe - 4 goals, Jessica - 1 goal and Emma O'Flynn - 1 goal resulted in the comfortable win with every girl giving their all.  Panel:- Taylor Jordan, Vicky O'Connell, Sophie Sheehan, Chloe Falvey, Aoibhainn O'Keeffe, Emily Murray, Anna Walmsley, Emma Stott, Caoimhe Collins, Jessica Hogan, Eva Twomey, Emma O'Flynn, Megan Ryan, Zoe Selway.

U 12's
We played an away fixture against Effin in the MacDomhnall League.  We were short some numbers but fielded a team of 11.  The first half in particular saw us on the back foot despite some great performances from Caoimhe, Anna in midfield and the backline of Vicky, Sophie and Chloe and Eva knuckling down and working very hard marshalled by Taylor in goals who pulled off some excellent saves.  Emma O'Flynn was in tough luck with a couple of shots just skimming the uprights.  The second half saw Anna and Caoimhe move to centreback and centreforward respectively and in the process making a vast difference at both ends with the remainder of the girls upping their game considerably with notable performances from Sophie, Vicky, Emma Stott and Taylor.  Anna and Caoimhe both contributed fine scores, a couple from distance with the full forward line of Megan, Emily Murray and Emma O'Flynn helping to pile on the pressure. Again a great team effort particularly in the second half.  Team as follows:- Taylor Jordan, Vicky O'Connell, Sophie Sheehan, Chloe Falvey, Eva Twomey, Anna Walmsley, Caoimhe Collins, Emma Stott, Megan Ryan, Emily Murray and Emma O'Flynn.

U14 League

Last Thursday evening, we travelled to St. Fanahans to play an U14 League game. We were missing a few of our older girls due to other activities but the fixture had to be played due to enforcement of the 7 day rule. Newtown had to get a win to qualify for the quarter finals and they did!  St Fanahans started very well and our 11 year old goalie Taylor Jordan making some great saves. The full back line of Shya Brennan, Sophie Sheehan and Zoe Selway all worked very well together and cleared their lines keeping St. Fanahans scoreless. Half backs Anna Walsmey and Sophie Collins worked extremely hard sending some great ball up to the forwards. Centre field duo of Ava Hooper and Caoimhe Collins made some fine runs into the forward line with Caoimhe scoring a goal in the first half. Louisa Selway tackled very well throughout on the half forward line while Emma Stott was very effective doing her usual carrying of the ball into the forwards. Aoibhinn O’ Keefe and Eva Twomey were unfortunate not to raise a flag while Chloe Falvey scored a great goal giving us a 2 goal lead. Centre back Sophie Collins got a lovely point from a 45 – leaving the final score 2-1 to 0-0.

This was a great team performance and the girls showed great character. It was a fantastic win for an U14 team considering they were all Under 12 except for 3!

U14 Feile
Last Wed evening, we travelled to Ballinora pitch in Castle Road to play the semi-final of the Feile county. We met a very strong Ballinascarthy side who had over half their team on the age of 14. Our girls fought very hard and great credit is due to them as we only have 2 on the age!  We have a very young side with three girls aged 10. Ballinascarthy went on to beat Grenagh very convincing in the Feile County final last Friday. Panel: Erin Kennedy, Vicky O' Connell, Sophie Collins, Sophie Sheehan, Rachel Enright, Aoibhinn O' Keefe, Ciara Sheehy, Louisa Selway, Caoimhe Collins, Sinead O'Donnell, Emma Stott, Zoe Selway, Taylor Jordan, Eva Twomey, Shya Brennan, Chloe Falvey.  The club will be holding trials for the feile skills competition when were receive the date from the county board.
The club would like to express its gratitude to all players and mentors who put considerable efforts into preparing for Feile this year. We met a very strong team in the semi final and indeed we wish Ballinascarthy every continued success.

U14 Feile

On Sunday last, we hosted a section of the Feile Competition.  Our 1st match was against Nemo Rangers and our girls had a convincing win with some great scores. Sinead O’ Donnell scoring 5 goals! Our full back Sophie Sheehan who played the second half in the forwards scored a great goal with Zoe Selway also finding the net. There were great performances all over the field, in particular Sophie Collins and Vicky O’ Connell and Louisa Selway operating out-field.  Our 2nd match was against Grenagh which was a very tough encounter. The match opened with Newtown putting pressure on the Grenagh backs but unfortunately we hit left and right of the goals with Caoimhe Collins, Eva Twomey, Chloe Falvey and Shya Brennan unlucky not to score. Later in the first half Grenagh scored two quick goals.  Ava Hooper finished the first half with a point leaving the half time score 2-1 to 1 point.

Second half was all to play for and we were playing with the breeze. Center field duo of Ava Hooper and Ciara Sheehy worked tirelessly all day sending some great ball onto the forwards. Great play from Sinead O’Donnell saw her hit the net for 2 more great goals. Half forwards Caoimhe Collins, Louisa Selway and Emma Stott made some great runs forward and later in the game Zoe Selway goaled for her second of the day. Our girls defended very well restricting Grenagh to 4 points in the second half. Goalie Erin Kennedy struck some great puck outs, with Noelle Cremin, Sophie Collins, Sophie Sheehan and Vicky O’Connell working very hard thoughout. Half back line of Anna Walsmey, Rachel Enright and Aoibhinn O ‘Keefe made some great clearances. Unfortunately, we were beaten by the narrowest of margins in what was a great game of camogie. Final Score Newtown 3-1; Grenagh 2-5.  This result left Newtown as runners up of the group. We play now Ballinascarthy on this Wed night in Ballinure GAA which is adjacent to Camogie Grounds Castle Road at 7.30pm.
