Advance Camp 2012 the way forward

The club advance camp in Football and Hurling/Camogie was held last week the third week of club camps, under the watchful eyes of Paddy Christie (Dublin Legend) and David Herrity (Kilkenny all Ireland winning goalkeeper). 25 Boys and 21 Girls (Hurling/Camogie camp) and 18 Boys and 13 Girls (Football camp) honed their skills in Football and Hurling/Camogie the weather was kind to us for a change. Paddy put the footballers through their paces on Monday and Tuesday and David sharpened the hurling/camogie skills on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday commenced with a forum on Discipline, Diet, Mental Preparation, Paddy and David answered questions from the players and gave advice on respect for the Club, Referees, Mentors and fellow players, forward play and defensive play. Both coaches explained what it takes to make it to the top of any sport and the hard work it takes to make it starting with the club.

The players then headed to the pitch for conditioned games in hurling and football putting their new found skills into practice. All players were presented with certificates by Kieran Canning who thanked everyone for their efforts during the camp. Once again Tommy Clinton graced us with his presence and had a good word for everyone, good to see club chairman and vice-chairman Liam Byrne and Martin Kiernan down during the week also fair play to club mentors John Shiels, Dean O`Reilly, Gerry O`Driscoll (Ladies Football boss) John Mannion (Camogie boss), Joe Potter, Tony Canning, Gerry Bannerman, Joe Forbes, Ciaran Kenny all down showing an interest in the camp. Mary T Fields did Trojan work during the week as usual, Jennie Haire, Niall Connolly, Paul McLoughlin all assisted with the coaching and did a top class job, Mick Feeney and Orbrey Dornan did a super job. Many thanks to David Herrity who gave us a hurley signed by the Kilkenny cats which will be raffled at the comedy night. Roll on next years advance camp where more club players should avail of this camp.
