DANDY

I gcuimhne chara peile Mhaigh Cuilinn. A Friend of Moycullen Football remembered

Ba lá dorcha gruama i stair Chumann Peile Mhaigh Cuilinn é an 17 Samhain 2001 nuair a scaip drochscéal báis thobainn Phádraig Uí Cheallaigh. Ba pheileadóir den scoth é Pádraic agus fear spóirt ildánach. Ba ábhar spreagtha é a dhúthracht don chlub mar imreoir agus mar rúnaí. D'imir sé do Ghaillimh in an iliomad grád agus thug sé seirbhís bhreá don chontae. Guímid leaba i measc na n-aingeal dó féin agus dá mhac Dara - ball den Chlub freisin a fuair bás ar 19 Feabhra 2003.

GALWAY, Connacht S.F.C. winners 1986. At back, from left: Gerry Dolan (St Grellan’s, Ballinasloe), Brian O’Donnell (Mervue-Ranmore, later Salthill), Pádraig (“Dandy”) Kelly (R.I.P.), (Maigh Cuilinn); Pat Comer (Salthill-Knocknacarra, later An Cheathrú Rua), Rory Fahy (Maigh Cuilinn), Michael Brennan (St Grellan’s, Ballinasloe), Gay McManus (Milltown), Séamus McHugh (Headford). In front: Brian Talty (Tuam Stars, later Parnell’s, Dublin), Aodán Ó Sé (An Cheathrú Rua), Enda Guerin (Salthill-Knocknacarra), Tomás Tierney, captain (Milltown); Val Daly (Mountbellew-Moylough), John Fallon (Tuam Stars), Barry Brennan (St Grellan’s, Ballinasloe).

The sudden and untimely death of Paraic Kelly on 17th November 2001 was the saddest day in the club's long history.  Padraic was an outstanding footballer and an all-round sportsman.  His dedication to the club as a player and as secretary was exemplary.  He played for Galway in all grades and gave sterling service to the county.  Leaba i measc na n-aingeal go raibh aige. We also remember his son Dara, another club member who sadly passed away on the 19th February 2003.
