U14B Hurling Championship Quarter Final

Kinsale 5-10 to Tracton 3-5

Our U14 hurling squad progressed to the Rebel Og East Semi Finals with a home victory over a gallant Tracton side. Kinsale started well but hit a few early wides.  However they steadied the ship after about 15 mins. Three free’s by John O’Brien, a Finn O’Brien goal, and a brilliant save in the 23rd minute by new net minder Brian O’Neill set Kinsale on their way. A further goal by James Rooney along with 4 points from play by Harry Sheehan and a score before HT by Luke Desmond put Kinsale ahead at the break by 2-9 to 1-1.

Kinsale kept up the pressure after the break and  further scores from Harry and John confirmed a hard fought victory. Kinsale introduced Gerry Coughlan, Dan O’Hanrahan, Paddy Desmond, Ryan O’Sullivan and James O’Donovan for championship experience and all contributed.

U14B Hurling Championship Semi-Final

Kinsale 5-9 to Youghal 2-7

Kinsale earned a hard fought Semi-Final victory against Youghal in Erins Own’s splendid grounds in Caherlag last week. Playing against a strong breeze and looking into a low lying sun, Kinsale’s hard work

in the 1st half eventually payed dividends. It was vital that they kept the HT deficit to as little as possible and good 1st half performances from the defence did the necessary. Brian O’Neill, good in goal and backed up by hard working Cian Murphy, Patrick O’Leary and Robbie Sweetman in the full back line. Our half back line was excellent with Kealin O’Rourke snuffing out their Cork player, Conor Mac strong at Centre back and Conal Gilleran back to his best and putting in his most complete performance of the championship. Kinsale also withdrew their full forward Harry Sheehan to play around the centre of the field and he along with John O’Brien played a lot of ball in the 1st HT.  Turning to play with a deficit of 4 points, 1-7 to 0-6 points Kinsale always felt it could be overturned.

However, the 2nd half didn’t go all to plan. Even though we were on top and had reduced the deficit the scores were not coming that freely. However we always looked dangerous and Youghal paid the price for some tight  & over zealous marking when their full back was dismissed. This was the turning point and Kinsale rattled in a few quick goals to settle the tie. Our forwards Gerry Coughlan, Tom O’Connell, Finn O’Brien, Michael Murphy, Harry Sheehan and Luke Desmond kept the Youghal defence busy. Youghal responded with a late injury time goal to put a bit of gloss on the final score as they had

only scored one point in the 2nd half.

By winning the Semi-Final we have also qualified for the Hurling County Semi-Finals………Fixtures and dates to be announced.

Scorers:

Harry Sheehan 2-2,  John O’Brien 0-6, Luke Desmond 1-1,  Michael Murphy 1-0,  James O’Donovan 1-0,

Under 12                        report submitted by Glynn Aherne

Well done to the Boys U12 who beat a strong Carrigaline Team in a challenge game in Dunderrow last Monday night (31st).   There was a huge panel available for selection which was great to see.  Every boy gave 100% commitment on the night and there could have been more goals but for excellent goal keeping by both goal keepers on the night.  Both teams had dominant periods during the match.

Under 16 Quarter Final of the County A Championship   - report submitted by Mairead Cronin

Hard Luck to the girls Under 16 last Monday night (31st Aug) when they were defeated by Fermoy by only a goal in their Quarter Final of the County A Championship. Final Score 3-8 to 2-8!

It was a very even game with Kinsale having a number of agonisingly narrow wides.  All the girls played fantastic, each and every one of them giving 100% for every second of the game.  They absolutely did their club very proud. Alas though it was not to be on the night – but they will be back again stronger than ever.

It was great to see the large amount of supporters who turned up to watch the girls play  - many of the Under 12 panel came along to shout the girls on.  Just an interesting note Kinsale had so many Under 16’s available to play that they were short 2 Jerseys!  Fantastic to see that level of interest and commitment this group of teenagers has to their team and club.

Under 13 Football League     -          report submitted by Mairead Cronin

The Under 13’s had a great win at home last Friday night (28th Aug) against Bantry – final score 6-7 to 4-4.  It was a great team performance, with all the girls showing great fitness and skill throughout the whole game.

A Big Big Thank You to all the parents who provided refreshements for after the game. And to all the supporters who came along to shout on the girls.
