Kerry Senior and Minor Medals Presentation Night 2014-12-02 08:08:00

Kerry Senior and Minor Medals Presentation Night

The Kerry Senior and Minor Hurlers – winners of the 2014 Allianz Hurling League Division 2A and the All-Ireland Minor ‘B’ Championship titles – received their medals at a function hosted by the Kerry County Board, G.A.A. in Tralee on Saturday last. Guest of honour, Robert Frost, Cathaoirleach, Comhairle na Mumhan made the presentations.

Chairman of the Kerry Co. Committee, Patrick O’Sullivan, in welcoming everyone present, congratulated both teams and their management on their successes and promised the full backing of the county committee to ensure that further success followed in the coming year. He congratulated Kerry’s 3 Christy Ring All-Stars, Padraig Boyle, Daniel Collins and Bryan Murphy and also those who represented Ireland in the Shinty internationals with Scotland.

Kerry senior team manager, Eamonn Kelly, said that his challenge for the coming season was twofold; to transfer the passion and pride, so much in evidence in the recent county championship, over to the county team set up and secondly, to bring the Christy Ring Cup back to Kerry in 2015. He thanked his fellow selectors, D.J. Leahy and Tom O’Connell, and he also informed those present that coach, Brian Horgan, would not be available in the coming year due to family commitments and he would be replaced by 2001 Tipperary All-Ireland medallist,  Conor Gleeson of the Boherlahan-Dualla Club.

Minor team manager, Ian Brick, thanked his fellow selectors, Aidan O’Mahony and Stephen Goggin and while congratulating all of the players, he singled out Daniel O’Carroll who was winning his 3rd Minor “B” All Ireland medal and Fionán Mackessy, who as a 16 year old, had the honour of captaining the minor team.

Presentations were made to both the senior and minor management teams in recognition of their achievements while Robert Frost remarked that he hoped that he would be back in Kerry again next year presenting Christy Ring medals.
