CLARE 2-28 KERRY 1-9

Kerry hurlers slumped to their second heavy defeat in a row when going down by 22 points to Clare at Cusack Park this afternoon. The Banner dominated proceedings from the throw in against a Kerry side that made three changes to their lineout with Dougie Fitzell, Jason Diggins and John Buckley starting in place of Sean Weir, Shane Nolan and Jack Goulding.

Clare were 6 points to 1 ahead by the 10th minute, John Egan getting the Kerry opener, and had stretched that lead to 10 points to 4 by the 21st minute with John Egan (2) and Michael O’Leary replying for the Kingdom. Two further points from Egan and O’Leary left Kerry trailing by 0-15 to 0-6 at the break with Conor McGrath helping himself to four of Clare’s scores.
Aidan McCabe denied Shane O’Donnell with a fine save and also saved a penalty by Duggan to keep his goal intact by the interval.

Clare took up where they left off on the resumption and John Conlon’s goal put further daylight between the sides and Duggan’s goal from the penalty spot was the icing on the cake for the homeside but Kerry kept plugging away with points from Brendan Brosnan, Jason Diggins and John Buckley and Daniel Collins fired home a late consolation goal.
