Ballincollig v Ballingeary

In a game that had been called off on 2 separate occasions it was great to get another game in the league played and get more game time into players who badly need them. Due to a number of different injuries, commitment to minor and senior teams and various injuries, the second team were severely depleted in numbers but not in spirit in this fixture.

Throughout the field from goalkeeper Kevin Jennings, in defence Padraig Harington and Daniel Byrne and up front with Morgan O Mahony, Ballincollig continually brought the best out of themselves and the opposition. Were it not for some errant shooting and a very wide crossbar, the score line could have been a lot closer at half time. Ballingeary finally forced a breakthrough and grabbed a goal on the whistle for the break. After the break, we continued to defend heroically only for the opposition to start finding more space. Our opponents pulled away in the third quarter due to the natural tiring of Ballincollig players. There was excellent effort and improvement over the last number of games and there will be better days ahead in the championship in March.

Ballincollig: Kevin Jennings, Luke Carey Murphy, William Greene, Padraig Harrington, Daniel Byrne, Frank Downs, Matt O’ Leary, Michael McNulty, Daniel O Connor, Conor Egan, Morgan O Mahony, Brian O Riordan, Joe Callinan.
