Jessie Coleman Club Cpt 2011

St Brendan's Ladies Football (Galway) Club notes   11/09/2017

A week that saw two of our underage teams on the playing field.  Our U16 girls played St. Marys in the quarter final in Killyan on Saturday. On a typical autumn morning, sun, wind and rain showers, this was a very well contested match, with the prize of a semi final spot at stake. This was a very tight affair, with the lead changing sides on a number of occasions. With fifteen minutes left to play and Brendans in a commanding position, the opposition rallied and made a serious comeback. But typical testament to our girls, they weathered the onslaught and prevailed by four points at the final whistle.  They will play Barna in the semi final. Final Score St Brendans 7:07 St Marys 6:06.

Our U12 girls travelled the long journey to Letterfrack to play Gráinne Mhaols on Sunday in the Semi Final.  This game was played in very wintry conditions with a strong wind throughout the game.  The wind favoured the home team in the first half and our girls defended well with the half time score of Gráinne Mhaols: 0:04 to Brendans 1:00.  In the second half our girls had the benefit of the stong breeze and this was a tight affair with nothing between the teams heading in to the last minutes of the game.  Our girls continued to defend well and got two goals in the last five minutes to secure a place in the final.  Final Score: Brendans 4:04 to Gráinne Mhaols 1:05.  They play Loughrea next weekend in the final.

Next weekend our Minor ladies play Corofin in the Championship.  Best of luck to all teams and management.
