Nephin View Restoration Group
The Nephin View Restoration Group was established in May 2009. It's primarily based at Martin Forrestal's Yard, Glenhest Rd, Newport. The group's priorities are the restoration and display of vintage agricultural machinery and cars, as well as heritage equipment.Membership of the group has grown steadily over the year. Several events are planned for 2010. A great start was made with the annual vintage parade in Castlebar on St Patrick's Day when NVRG took first prize and now hold the Parade Cup for a year.
Jason Coleman, aged 13, brought distinction to Nephin View Restoration Group when he captured 2nd place in Vintage Club Section of the Mayo Ploughing Championship. Jason was the youngest of the 27 competitors. He proudly collected the Trophy in Hollymount on Saturday 24 April.
The vintage car and tractor run through Newport on Sunday 25 April, in aid of Cuan Modh Day Care Centre Newport, was a roaring success. It was a great sight, 52 vintage tractors roaming the countryside, with the workmen's hut which was part of the display that won the Castlebar St Patrick's Day Parade. The tractors were accompanied by at least 40 vintage cars from the Connaught and Western Veteran Motor Club. Afterwards there was a BBQ, music and raffle in Martin Forrestal's Yard. Refreshments were supplied by Cuan Modh.
The Vintage Show and Family Fun Day Saturday on 26 June 2010 was threatened by rain that only came late into the night. A large crowd attended the activities in the afeternoon and by ten in the evening the barn dance was well underway thanks to music by the Bumble Bee and Michael. A really great day was had by all for the second year running.
The next run is on July 11th from Paddy Jordan's, Derryhellagh, Castlehill, Crossmolina with BBQ afterwards: route to be confirmed. For further information on the year's events, or how to join the group, contact Mags Carey. Click here to email Mags.
