Neptune secure Marian win 2011-11-20 17:43:00

The first quarter of the game saw both teams trading baskets and with 5 minutes gone the score was 13 - 13 with Conor Meany (Marian) and Ian McLaughlin (Neptune) showing early form.  In the remaining part of the quarter, Neptune's American Ronald Thompson began to impose himself on UCD's Donnie Stith and at the end of the quarter the Cork team lead by 4 points on a scoreline of 22 - 26.

The critical phase of the game came in the first part of the second quarter. With UCD-Marian sitting down their American Dopnnie Stith, Neptune started fast, adding 21 points - to UCD's 6 - in a four minute blitz that saw Roy Downey hit shot after shot from the outside.  The quarter ended 41 - 57 for the visitors with Downey scoring 15 points.

In the third quarter, the two teams traded baskets with Ger Noonan showing all of his experience at both ends of the court and at the end of that quarter, Neptune still led by 17 points, 63 - 80.

The Irish players for UCD, inspired by Conor Meany who had 26 points in all never gave up and with Phil Taylor fouling out for Neptune with 8 minutes left in the game, Marian brough the lead back to 9 with four minutes to go.  Once again Ger Noonan linked up with Thoompson for some critical baskets and in the end Neptune ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 98 - 84.
